There’s something about summer in Covent Garden. You can’t quite explain it — you just have to be here. The street performers setting up under the arches. The smell of coffee and fresh pastries from Watch House drifting through the air. People slowing down as the day warms up. Families from the USA off to their first West End musical. Friends from Colombia sharing a laugh over gelato from Badiani1932 (worth the queue, trust us). Couples from the Middle East, phones out, debating whether to brave the walk to Selfridges or just give in and take a cab.
It’s the kind of place where you want to stop for a bit. Take it all in. Sip something cold. That’s where we come in. At Olea Social, we’ve got a small but mighty list of rosés. No fuss. No pretense. Just the good stuff.
Ancyra Blush, Çalkarası, Türkiye
Ancyra Blush comes from Türkiye’s Aegean coast. The Çalkarası grape grows in the sea breeze. One of our team, whose family is from Izmir, swears this wine tastes like home: grilled fish, endless mezze, and that magical moment when nobody’s checking the time. It’s crisp, light, dry. Great after losing yourself in Waterstones (when you said you’d only browse). Or before figuring out how to get to Matilda the Musical or The Devil Wears Prada without ending up in Soho by accident.
Rosa dei Venti, Guerrieri, Marche, Italy
Rosa dei Venti means “wind rose.” It’s soft, floral, with just enough fruit to keep things interesting. The kind of wine that makes you want to stay put for a while. Maybe you’ve just braved Seven Dials Market, still wondering if you should’ve picked tacos instead of bao buns. Maybe you’re sitting back, watching the crowd, trying to guess where everyone’s from. We see visitors from the USA and Latin America choose this one, leaning back with a sigh and saying, “Let’s stay for another glass.”
Calafuria Negroamaro Rosato, Tormaresca, Puglia, Italy
Calafuria is basically summer in a glass. Bright, fresh, full of life. The kind of wine that goes with chargrilled prawns, lamb skewers — or just by itself while you sit back and listen to the mix of languages around you. We’ve seen couples from New York and families from Lebanon toast the day with this. Then head off to The Book of Mormon with just enough time to grab a programme and some overpriced sweets.
Rose Gold, AOP Côtes de Provence, France
This is your treat-yourself glass. Rose Gold is pure elegance. Pale pink, with soft notes of citrus and strawberry. Not the wine you knock back while checking your emails. The wine you order because, well, you deserve it. The one that makes you sit back and say, “Let’s stay just a little longer.”
Wherever you’ve come from — first time in London or a regular Covent Garden wanderer — we’d love to see you. No bookings. No pressure. Just grab a seat, and let us pour you something that makes your day.
